Ectoin is an amino acid derivative, also konwn as Tetrahydromethylpyrimidinic acid.

In 1986, scientists discovered it in the Halomonas Elongata in the hot and arid deserts of Egypt.

And it was also found in organisms in saline-alkali lands, seawater, etc., under harsh and extreme conditions,

such as high salinity, high temperature, and high UV radiation, to maintain the survival of the organisms.

Ectoin has a unique molecular structure. 

The carbonyl group (C=O) and the nitrogen atom of the pyrimidine ring in its structure can combine with a large number of water molecules through hydrogen bonds and other interactions, 

forming a protective Hydro-Complex around cells and then protect cells and the cell membrane, proteins and DNA,  and prevent external environmental pressure.
